Here is an install I did for a client who wanted a Thinkware U3000 Pro installed in their Kia Sorento 2023.
The client chose to use an OBD connector, which is fine by me as it is easier. As OBD is always on these typically have a cut-off after some period of inactivity rather than by monitoring constant/accessory voltage state.
Anyway, I installed it as typical routing the wire along the driver side to the rear. At the rear panel I drilled a hole and installed a rubber grommet to route the rear camera cable. I find this method gives a more professional look and prevents cable damage. The trim piece itself snaps off and can be replaced later for a small price.
Something interesting to note: the Thinkware cam came with a “heat shield” adhesive intermediary panel that is sandwiched between windshield and dashcam. Glad to see innovation in regards to heat disjointment of dashcam adhesives; wonder if it will hold up vs the summer temps.
